The partnership which commences in August 2008 at the beginning of the new football season will guarantee Crown Paints massive media exposure at a local, national and even international level, putting the brand in front of 10 million premiership viewers each week.
The substantial sponsorship package is to include shirt sponsorship, perimeter advertising, corporate hospitality and ongoing branding and promotional opportunities with Blackburn Rovers. The deal is one of the key thrusts of a new £10million marketing and communications campaign to elevate the profile of Crown Paints and its brands in its professional and consumer audiences nationwide.
Joe Devitt of Crown Paints says: “This is a very welcome return to Premier League football for us and once again we are going to be in a position where we can reach out and communicate with customers from every sector of our market through the nation’s favourite sport.
“We really believe we’ve found the perfect match. Blackburn Rovers is one of the oldest and best loved football teams in the land. We both have a history and heritage to be proud of and we share the very same passion for excellence and determination to succeed.”
Simon Williams, Head of Commercial and Marketing at Rovers agreed: “We wanted to find a brand that was the ideal fit for the club and we were also looking for a long term relationship that will give excellent value in terms of exposure and activation. Crown Paints matches the type of business we were looking for and is an exciting partner for the club. This deal gives us the opportunity to work with a major national brand with the added benefit of a strong local connection.”
Because of that strong local connection, news of the sponsorship deal received a rapturous reception in the Lancashire town of Darwen where Crown Paints is based. Joe Devitt reports: “Rovers are our local team. In fact Ewood Park is so close to our headquarters and main manufacturing site that we can hear the roar of the crowds on matchdays. A great many of our employees are proud and loyal Rovers supporters so they’re absolutely thrilled that we’re now going to be working together for mutual benefit and a successful future.”
